Yew was held sacred by the druidic culture, symbolising everlasting life, death and resurrection. These beliefs continued through the Celtic culture and into Christianism and went on to represent good luck when placed in dwellings. It is said to contain healing powers and in modern times, cancer treatment drugs have also been derived from yew bark.

Magick said to be connected to yew include heightened psychic ability, communication with the deceased, dreaming, transformation and protection against evil.
