Welsh Wands

Welsh Wands

You may have noticed my fascination with witchcraft and magical practice. Well, I started making wands for my children, first whittling and then trying my hand at woodturning. Turns out I'm alright at that sort of thing and I really enjoy the escape it provides. Thanks to my job as a woodland manager I have access to sustainable wood and all of it (unless I happen across some exotic stuff from doomed furniture or offcuts from my mate's woodyard) is locally sourced and tends to be of a ripe old age, especially the storm-wrecked churchyard yew I am currently working my way through.

I tend to let the wood take me where it wants to go in terms of style but I am happy to work on commissions if you find yourself taken by a vision. Or if you just see yourself as a Harry Potter character... Better to have an original wooden wand than a mass-produced resin version though, isn't it? I think so.
Personally, I'm a Remus Lupin, Shillelagh kinda guy.
Please note that the wands on this page are mostly spoken for but if one takes your fancy then let me know and a similar wand can be made. The wands pictured on this page are of oak, ash, hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel and sapele.
